As Dawn comes from a livestock grazing background and Dave from the city, they wanted stock that was easy to care for on their property.
Cattle were considered as an option, as were goats, but they didn't wan't the handling and fence hassles.
Dawn's experience with wool sheep meant that sheep weren't even considered.
"No way was I going to go through shearing, mulesing and dipping ever again."
Dave read a magazine article about Wiltshire Horn sheep and showed Dawn but she was very sceptical. They were sheep after all!
After lots of research on all breeds of sheep, particularly wool shedding, they decided Wiltshire Horn sheep were right for them. Other shedding breeds appeared too "goaty". Wiltshire Horns look like "proper" sheep.
Dawn and Dave love living in the bush. They want stock that will adapt to the conditions they live in. Wiltshire Horn sheep do that very well.
"Our philosophy is to raise our sheep in a natural environment where they are free from harm and comfortable, living a good life with us. Our sheep graze on native pastures, with supplement hand feeding only when necessary."
"We aim to maintain the integrity of the breed and its ancient heritage by using pure bred stock. The easy-care, minimal handling suits our busy lifestyle."
